SUMMARY:ART HEALS: On view June 1-30
DESCRIPTION:ART HEALS\, an exhibition of paintings by Dr. James E. George\, MD\, JD. \nTo schedule a viewing\, please contact events@positiveexposure.org or 212-420-1931. \nDr. James E. George is a highly accomplished doctor and lawyer who experienced a brain and spinal cord injury after a fall in his home\, resulting in a coma and quadriplegia. He spent six months in rehab\, where he discovered great joy and healing in creating art. \n \n\n  \nJames E. George\, MD\, JD: \nI have been involved in emergency medicine for nearly 50 years of my life\, but healthcare wasn’t my only interest. I studied medicine and law simultaneously and served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves Medical Corps. \nAfter receiving my undergraduate degree from Columbia University\, I simultaneously enrolled in the University of Louisville Medical School and Law School. Attending medical school during the day and law school at night\, I completed the programs in four years\, receiving both degrees – with honors – in 1970. \nOne of my proudest accomplishments in the field of emergency medicine was being an early adopter of emergency medicine as a specialty. I served on the Board of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP)\, and I am a past member of several professional organizations for physicians and attorneys. I authored several books on the topic as well. \nI am a founding member of TeamHealth\, an association of more than 20\,000 clinicians throughout the United States. I served as a division president for the TeamHealth East region until 2014 when I made the transition to the position of Strategic Advisor to the CEO of TeamHealth. I was also a founding member of George & Korin\, a healthcare law firm representing physicians\, nurses\, and other healthcare providers. \nIn 2016\, I suffered a brain and spinal cord injury after a fall in my home\, resulting in a coma and quadriplegia. I spent six months at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia\, where I discovered great joy in art therapy and painting – ultimately contributing several pieces of my artwork now on display throughout the hospital.  \nFollowing my partial recovery and diminished use of my dominant right hand\, I received the Adam Taliaferro Foundation Award and accepted it by standing in public for the first time since my injury. Today\, I am living a full life\, enjoying my art and painting and spending time with family and friends. I hope you enjoy my paintings as well. I draw special pleasure from comments made by patients\, their families\, and others who enjoy my art. \nImage Description: On a black background is the following text\, in white: “POSITIVE EXPOSURE GALLERY ART HEALS James E. George\, MD\, JD. OPENING CELEBRATION Saturday\, June 1\, 2-5pm. 14 East 109th Street\, NYC. On View: June 1-30\, 2024. Contact: 212-420-1931.” At bottom left is the NYSCA logo. At center is an abstract painting with swirling golden yellow lines embellished with a few red lines and bright green dots on a dark grey background.

SUMMARY:American Academy of Developmental Medicine & Dentistry (AADMD)\, Chicago
DESCRIPTION:“This is not a conference that simply highlights the health disparity people with IDD continue to experience – but it’s a place to discover and explore so that we\, as clinicians\, can ensure people with IDD get the best healthcare has to offer. ” \n\n\n\n\nOne Voice for Inclusive Health is AADMD’s annual educational conference\, held every year since 2002. We believe it takes one voice to make a difference and there’s one voice — the voice of a person with IDD — that needs to be heard. People with IDD experience a healthcare disparity in the US\, and through our annual training and partnerships\, we work to reverse that inequality. \n\nThe One Voice conference brings business leaders and IDD professionals together for education\, advocacy and to ignite change.\n\nDuring this conference\, attendees will hear from top keynote speakers\, meet companies and political leaders paving the way for inclusive health\, participate in topical panel discussions and breakout sessions\, earn Medical or Dental CE – not to mention network with top health professionals dedicated to the IDD population. \nWe invite you to join us in one voice – as a Sponsor\, Exhibitor or Attendee. \nLet’s ignite change together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat is AADMD? \nAmerican Academy of Developmental Medicine & Dentistry (AADMD) is a non-profit organization of interdisciplinary medical professionals including physicians\, dentists\, optometrists\, neurologists and other clinicians committed to improving the quality of healthcare for people with IDD. \nSince 2002\, the AADMD has connected clinicians across the world and prepared them to face the unique challenges in caring for people with IDD. The organization provides curriculum to schools\, IDD training for clinicians and specialized information to families and caretakers in language that is easy to understand. Above all\, AADMD aims to make sure that no person with IDD is left without access to quality health services. \nThey are difference makers for people with IDD.
