DESCRIPTION:How Do You Wear?\nBy Sydney Keller\nA mixed-media textile installation that explores how clothing bears the marks of disabled life.\nOn view through October 1\, 2025\nPlease contact events@positiveexposure.org to schedule a visit\n \n“How Do You Wear? is a mixed-media textile installation that explores how clothing bears the marks of disabled life. For many physically disabled individuals\, myself included\, garments often degrade in predictable ways: forearm fabric thinning from crutch use\, elbows rubbing on wheels\, seams tearing\, fabrics pilling and shredding in irregular patterns. This project reframes that inevitable wear as evidence of interaction\, resilience\, and storytelling rather than frustration or failure.”\nSydney Keller is a designer and researcher exploring the relationship between materials and disabled bodies\, revealing wear as a form of visual storytelling.\nSydney graduated from Wesleyan University in May 2025 with a self-designed major in Computational Design\, an interdisciplinary program bridging computer science\, computational fabrication methods\, and design. Her senior thesis applied these interests to her unique story\, exploring the disabled experience through both personal and collaborative lenses. By critically examining the medical and social models of disability\, Sydney addresses assumptions around normalcy and the body. Themes of emotional labor\, microaggressions\, adaptive tools as apparel\, and the compounding effects of those experiences over time are also made evident and contended with.\nBased in Boston\, Sydney is currently working on the material development team at New Balance. She hopes to continue building on her thesis work by improving the accessibility of the systems\, products\, and environments we interact with daily through co-design\, material innovation\, and a belief that wear is worth noticing.\nImage Description: On a nave blue background is a photograph of a room in which black\, white\, navy\, and blue shirts and sweaters are suspended from the ceiling. DESCRIPTION:SENSORY-SCAPES\nA Multisensory Textile Exhibit by Sugandha Gupta\nPlease contact ian@positiveexposure.org to schedule a viewing.\nSENSORY-SCAPES is a multisensory textile exhibit that engages audiences through the senses and is accessible by design.\nBorn with albinism\, and visually impaired\, Sugandha Gupta creates Sensory-Textiles\, a collection of textiles and wearables that encourage audiences to engage through touch\, sound\, smell\, and sight.\nGupta is the Assistant Professor of Fashion Design and Materiality at Parsons School of Design. Her research is at the intersection of multisensory art\, design\, and embodied justice.\nWith over 18 years of experience in the textile industry and an established textile art practice\, Gupta’s work is exhibited at The Guggenheim Museum\, The Met Museum\, UN Headquarters\, Hunterdon Art Museum\, The American Craft Council\, and the Smithsonian Craft Show among other museums and galleries. She has won prestigious awards such as The Dorthy Waxman Textile Prize\, International Design Award\, and CFDA Design Graduate.\nAccessibility:\nNearest trains: 2\,3. Exit at Wall Street. If exiting from R or W trains get out at Cortland Street and exit via oculus on Liberty Street. Walk straight on Liberty Street as a landmark you will see Mercer labs on the left and a black building on the right. Keep walking straight past a yellow building that is the residence in on the right and keep walking straight. Towards the left is a construction site and on the right is the federal reserve building. Once you pass the construction site and cross the street you will come across a few restaurants on the left including Tratitas pizza. Right next door to it is the AHRC building i.e.83 Maiden Lane which houses the positive exposure gallery on the fourth floor. There’s a push button at the entrance of the building on the right for opening the two doors and a guard usually opens them. Once you let him know you are going up to the fourth floor he will let you pass the security stations.The 4\, 5 trains are also close to the location and Fulton Street is the exit station for these trains. A\,C\,E TRAINS CAN ALSO BE TAKEN TO WORLD TRADE CENTER AND EXIT THE OCULUS from the liberty street side to be closer to the gallery location.
