SUMMARY:Wendy Elliott-Vandivier: Micro-Aggressions
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition will run through August 15th. \nWendy Elliott-Vandivier’s  autobiographical cartoons focus on attitudinal barriers and stereotypes regarding disabilities\, and some of the micro-aggressions that disabled people experience while living normal\, un-inspirational lives. \nWendy Elliott-Vandivier is a graduate of Tyler School of Art\, Temple University. She has been making art and mischief since she was a young child growing up in Philadelphia. In college\, she majored in sculpture and staged a funeral of a disabled poster child to lay stereotypes of pity and helplessness firmly to rest. Her paintings explore issues of family\, memory and experiences as a disabled woman. SUMMARY:United Hands: Health Equity Listening Sessions
DESCRIPTION:The Health Equity Listening Sessions will be a full-day\, community-centered engagement event designed to bring together Deaf\, DeafBlind\, Late-Deafened\, Hard of Hearing\, and other individuals with communication access needs to share their lived experiences directly with representatives from the New York State Department of Health\, state and local government agencies\, healthcare organizations\, managed care plans\, and community partners. The purpose of the event is to identify barriers to equitable healthcare access\, gather community-driven recommendations\, and strengthen collaboration between policymakers\, healthcare leaders\, and the communities they serve. Rather than a traditional conference\, the event is designed as an interactive listening and co-design experience where government agencies listen first and community members lead the conversation \nMission: United Hands Organization (UHO) is an ASL-led nonprofit building accessible systems through universal design\, communication access\, workforce development\, and integrated care. We partner with healthcare providers\, government agencies\, employers\, and community organizations to eliminate communication barriers and improve equitable access to health\, social\, employment\, and community services for Deaf\, DeafBlind\, Hard of Hearing\, Limited English Proficient (LEP)\, and other underserved communities. By combining lived experience\, innovation\, technology\, and trusted community partnerships\, we transform fragmented services into inclusive\, person-centered solutions that improve outcomes for everyone.

Join us for a hands-on workshop blending Narrative Medicine with free-form weaving. All materials provided.\n\n\n\n \nAbout Ria \n\n\n\nPrior to her full-time devotion to Intertwine Arts\, Ria was a pediatric nurse practitioner at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of NY Presbyterian\, Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC). Her focus was providing palliative and curative care for children with cancer and life-threatening hematological diseases. Throughout her career\, she has been an advocate for integrative therapies\, including interventions that promote healing. \nRia recognized that weaving could decrease stress and anxiety as well as enhance self-expression and coping skills. She established a weaving program\, which was adaptable to different developmental\, physical\, and emotional needs\, in the pediatric hematology/oncology clinic at CUMC. As an adjunct professor at Bank Street Graduate School of Education\, Ria shares her expertise with child life students. She also volunteers in the Arts in Medicine Studio\, in the Pediatric Neurology Clinic at CUMC. She is the co-founder and Board President of Intertwine Arts. \n \nAbout Liz \n\n\nLiz Matejka-Grossman has dedicated her career to advancing equity for under-resourced and marginalized communities through education. While teaching high school English and ESL in New York City public schools\, she created wraparound programs to support at-risk students and their families. She also established Literacy AmeriCorps in Palm Beach County as a project of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County to combat high rates of illiteracy\, address the needs of young and adult learners\, and provide meaningful service and professional development opportunities for AmeriCorps members. \nThe birth of her first child in 1999\, who has the chromosomal anomaly 18q- syndrome\, catapulted Liz into accessibility education and deepened her lifelong commitment to inclusion. A professional dancer\, she trained at England’s Royal Ballet School before earning her BA from the University of Michigan and graduate degrees from Teachers College\, Columbia University\, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She later co-founded Sharing the Arts\, a nonprofit that enhances the lives of individuals with disabilities and diverse ways of being through inclusive performing arts opportunities.

Lingad started his career as a camera assistant on TV shows\, commercials\, and narrative films in 2008. He got his break in journalism in 2011 when he was hired as a videographer and editor by The Wall Street Journal. He worked with its sister companies\, MarketWatch and Barron’s\, as a video journalist for six years\, developing various news stories from income inequality to the student loan crisis to America’s epidemic of loneliness.  Joseph gravitates to stories about social and socioeconomic issues and corporate accountability. \nAfter over a decade working in a newsroom\, Joseph returned to school in 2022 to obtain a master’s in business and economics reporting\, specializing in documentary. While at school\, Joseph developed a short version of “Don’t Look Away” as his Capstone project under the guidance of award-winning filmmakers Yoruba Richen\, Judith Helfand\, Sabrina Gordon\, and others.Joseph is now working on his first feature-length documentary\, “Don’t Look Away\,” which includes his story of his struggle living with a facial difference. DESCRIPTION:Join author and disability rights activist Emily Ladau for a joyful celebration of the disability community and the power of sharing our stories.\nFollowing the recent release of the updated edition of her acclaimed book\, Demystifying Disability: What to Know\, What to Say\, and How to be an Ally\, Emily will be in conversation with Xian Horn\, Founder of Give Beauty Wings\, to discuss how—in such tumultuous times—we can continue to meet people where they are in their journeys of learning about disability\, while also honoring our own needs for self-care.\nASL interpreting and CART will be provided. DESCRIPTION:On View: October 4 – November 3\, 2026\nContact events@positiveexposure.org to arrange a visit!\nRSVP for the Celebration & Artist Talk using the Register button above.\n \nTami Luchow\, an emerging installation artist\, presents her much-anticipated next chapter\, or “next leg\,” following her debut at Westbeth Gallery in July 2025 here at Positive Exposure Gallery. Her interactive exhibit\, titled THE NEXT LEG OF THE DIS TOUR: VISION QUEST\, showcases a diverse range of mediums\, including video\, photography\, graphic design\, multimedia\, sculpture\, mobiles\, assemblage\, and interactive pieces. These elements are intricately woven with found objects related to the healthcare industry\, individuals with disabilities – both visible and invisible – and their families\, friends\, loved ones\, colleagues\, and caregivers. The exhibit challenges societal boundaries and fosters a profound sense of shared humanity.\nTHE NEXT LEG OF THE DIS TOUR\, a multi-layered and experiential series\, invites visitors to become an integral part of the artist’s circle. Luchow’s personal journey as a woman\, keynote speaker\, journalist\, author\, and artist\, along with her own experiences as someone born without her right leg is seamlessly integrated into the interactive installation. Her first book\, Poems for A Memory promotes her vision of community and belonging for all. She encourages everyone to share their own stories\, contributing to the ongoing project as it travels across the country and beyond. As Luchow passionately states\, “Dis is Life. Dis is you.
