SUMMARY:PE Films Featured in the Socially Relevant Film Festival!
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to share that we have two films featured in the Socially Relevant Film Festival\, screening March 10th and 13th in New York City! \nThese films were made possible by the generous support of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.\n\nMother Cabrini Health Foundation has funded more than 20 Positive Exposure FRAME Films\, including the two in this festival\, which address mental health recovery through the arts and Alzheimer’s disease in our aging I/DD community. We are grateful to Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for their dedication to improving health care for marginalized populations. Mother Cabrini’s support to Positive Exposure has been transformative\, enabling us to create a film library that presents humanity at the forefront of medical training for the next generation of health care providers\, creating opportunities to better care for a population that often experiences stigma\, discrimination\, and exclusion in the medical system and broader social arena.\nThese films highlight the lived experiences of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)\, and reflect the importance of authentic representation and inclusive storytelling.\nTICKETS HERE\n  \n \nCREATE THAT WORLD\nMarch 10 | 6:30 PM\nMRHS – Community Room\n100 La Salle Street\, New York\, NY 10027\nTUESDAY – Shorts Block – Mental Health – MRHS. The program starts at 6:30 PM; the screening is followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and a celebratory glass of wine. \n\n\n\n“Create That World” is a short film that offers an intimate glimpse into a vibrant\, supportive studio in New York City\, where artists living with mental illness find both a creative outlet and a lifeline. The film explores how art spaces can serve as a sanctuary\, where social connection and artistic freedom help people not only create\, but also reclaim a sense of purpose and belonging.\n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nPATHFINDERMarch 13 | 1:00 PM\nCinema Village\n22 E 12th St\, New York\, NY 10003\nFRIDAY – Shorts # 4 – DISABILITY. SUMMARY:Speaking in Pairs Dialogue: Positive Exposure\, Reconstructing a Face with Naomi Levinshtein
DESCRIPTION:Speaking in Pairs Dialogue Friday March 20th\, 2026\nPositive Exposure\, Reconstructing a Face\nNaomi Levinshtein\n\nIn this presentation\, Naomi Levinshtein reflects on how portraiture can reshape the experience of facial difference\, drawing from both her own photographic practice and the work of Rick Guidotti. Speaking from both sides of the camera—as someone who has undergone palate repair and as a photographer documenting her peers—Levinshtein considers how Guidotti’s founding of Positive Exposure challenges the clinical\, often dehumanizing conventions of medical photography.\nDescription\n\nFurthering the exhibition Speaking in Pairs and its emphasis on dialogue and duality\, paired speakers explore themes centered on the power of representation. The program also features vocalist Beth Griffith performing a powerful English rendition of Marieluise. A Report by Kerstin Specht\, joined by dancer and poet Yehuda Hyman\, bringing together embodied performance and layered conversations. \nFeatured participants include: Luis Corzo\, Vie Darling\, Meredith Davenport\, Steven Donziger\, Beth Griffith\, Rick Guidotte\, Tess Hamilton\, Benjamin Hett\, Yehuda Hyman\, Adrienne Keller\, Reiner Leist\, Naomi Levinshtein\, Susan Meiselas\, Paul Messier\, Kendall Rogers\, Stefan Ruiz\, Caroline Rupprecht\, Kristina Shook\, Stephanie Stebich\, Sally Stein\, Camilo Vergara\, and Virginia Inés Vergara. \nThank you to our generous exhibition and programming sponsors: Leonard A. SUMMARY:World Down Syndrome Day at the United Nations
DESCRIPTION:Positive Exposure to photograph the 15th World Down Syndrome Day Conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.\nWatch Online: The whole event will be streamed LIVE for you to watch from wherever you are. Note that there are different links for the morning and afternoon sessions. \n \nThe 2026 World Down Syndrome Day theme\, “Together Against Loneliness\,” focuses on raising awareness of how loneliness disproportionately affects people with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities\, as well as their families. \nIt highlights that loneliness is not just an emotional feeling but a serious health issue that can lead to anxiety\, depression\, and physical harm\, often linked to social exclusion and stigma. \nThe campaign calls for real inclusion in schools\, workplaces\, and communities\, emphasizing that being present does not equate to being included or truly connected. It stresses that everyone – individuals\, families\, organizations\, schools\, employers\, and governments – has a role in creating welcoming spaces and meaningful relationships to help people feel they belong. \nUltimately\, the theme frames loneliness as a human rights issue\, urging collective action to turn the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities into concrete change that ends isolation and promotes full participation in society. \nDown syndrome occurs when an individual has an extra partial (or whole) copy of chromosome 21. It is not yet know why this syndrome occurs\, but Down syndrome has always been a part of the human condition. It exists in all regions across the globe and commonly results in variable effects on learning styles\, physical characteristics and health. \nAdequate access to health care\, to early intervention programmes\, and to inclusive education\, as well as appropriate research\, are vital to the growth and development of the individual. \nIn December 2011\, the General Assembly declared 21 March as World Down Syndrome Day (A/RES/66/149). The General Assembly decided\, with effect from 2012\, to observe World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March each year. In order to raise public awareness of Down syndrome\, the General Assembly invites all Member States\, relevant organizations of the United Nations system and other international organizations\, as well as civil society\, including non-governmental organizations and the private sector\, to observe World Down Syndrome Day in an appropriate manner. \nOn March 19 and 21\, there will be a number of events at the United Nations in Geneva to mark World Down Syndrome Day.
