DESCRIPTION:We have partnered with the Josephine Herrick Project t0 host a 12-week photo program for individuals with traumatic brain injuries and those who care for them or work in the field. \nThese classes will cover the basics of photography\, composition\, and visual storytelling\, and will work in a series of projects that include tactile elements. \nThe Josephine Herrick Project\, located around the corner from us at 64 Fulton Street\, aims to amplify underrepresented voices through photography\, giving people the tools to see differently\, communicate across cultures\, and advocate for themselves and their communities. \nThe JHP is partnering with a chapter of the Brain Injury Association of New York State to offer this program. Coffin and Siris to describe individuals with a shortened or underdeveloped fifth digit or fifth digit nail\, along with developmental and learning differences\, and a variety of organ-system issues. For many years\, the diagnosis was made solely on clinical features; in 2013\, the first genes associated with CSS were discovered. As more individuals with CSS are being diagnosed\, the clinical picture has broadened and that the extent of learning\, developmental\, and growth differences vary among children.

DESCRIPTION:Presentation and Photography: Long Island Marriott\, Uniondale\, NY \nIn the Press: ReNU Washington Post Cover Story Unique_Autumn2024MagazineNo100_RNU4-2 \nWhat Do We Know About ReNU Syndrome?\nRNU4-2 / ReNU Syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder caused by variants in the RNU4-2 gene.  \nVariants in the RNU4-2 gene\, a non-coding gene responsible for producing U4 snRNA\, have been identified as a significant cause of previously undiagnosed neurodevelopmental disorders. These variants\, particularly the insertion of a T between positions 64 and 65 of the gene\, disrupt the RNA splicing process\, causing errors in how RNA is processed and leading to improper protein synthesis. This exciting discovery highlights the importance of whole-genome sequencing\, as traditional exome sequencing often overlooks non-coding genes like RNU4-2. \nThe name “ReNU” was given by families and researchers to symbolize the “renewed hope” for a better future for those affected. This diagnosis opens avenues for future research and potential treatments for those affected\, and aids in the understanding that there wasn’t anything parents did prior to or during pregnancy to cause the disorder. \nReNU Syndrome is currently characterized by hypotonia\, global developmental delay\, severely impaired intellectual development with poor or absent speech\, delayed walking or inability to walk\, feeding difficulties with poor overall growth\, seizures (in most)\, dysmorphic facial features\, and brain anomalies\, including ventriculomegaly\, thin corpus callosum\, and white matter loss (Greene et al.\, 2024; Schot et al.\, 2024; Chen et al.\, 2024).

DESCRIPTION:Presentation and Photography: Salt Lake City\, UT \nWhat Is Moebius Syndrome?\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs a very simple explanation\, Moebius syndrome is a form of facial paralysis combined with outward\, to the side\, eye paralysis. Individuals with Moebius syndrome typically cannot make facial expressions\, such as smiling\, frowning\, squinting\, or blinking. Speech\, eating\, and lip movement may also be affected. People with Moebius syndrome also cannot move their eyes out to the side\, as you would if you were looking over your shoulder without turning your head. The syndrome has a wide range of presentations and may occur on one or both sides of the face.
