Rick has spent more than twenty-five years collaborating with advocacy organizations to effect change in societal attitudes towards individuals living with genetic\, physical\, behavioral or intellectual differences by replacing dehumanizing representations with positive images. \n\n\nWhat’s your thing? is presented in collaboration with Precision Medicine in Autism (PRISMA) and features participants from Rhode Island and Edmonton\, Canada. PRISMA is a multidisciplinary effort based at the University of Alberta that seeks to understand the unique and diverse worlds of people on the autism spectrum and support their health through genomics across research\, clinical care\, education\, and community engagement. \nA family/friends reception is planned at the exhibit for \nSaturday\, April 20th from 2-4pm.   \nPlease RSVP with names of people planning to attend.  \n\n\n\n\n\nMuseum of Work and Culture\n42 South Main Street\nWoonsocket\, RI 02895\n\nsecond floor\n\n\n\n\n\n\nImage Description: Postcard: Assorted portraits against a black background. \n\n\n\n\nThroughout our work we honor and celebrate each person’s uniqueness as we learn about their specific interests and passions\, their “things”\, which has now become the basis of our campaign #whatsyourthing. We all have our “things”; we invite you to reflect on your own interests and passions\, focusing on how the universality of the emotions that come up brings us all together beyond the constraints of any diagnoses. \n\n\n\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n

Please join us for a sneak preview of a just-finished experimental documentary\, Please Hold\, featuring Juanita Mohammed Szczepanski and members of her family\, including her husband Henry Szczepanski\, daughter Jahanara Zzaman King\, and granddaughter Pharah Diaz. \nThe tape asks: What does it mean to hold the legacy of beloveds on changing formats of memory? How do mourning\, haunting\, and memory change across time? How have AIDS and AIDS activism changed since the dawn of this ongoing pandemic? Alex and Juanita met in 1990 to make the celebrated collective AIDS activist video\, We Care: A Video for Care Providers of People Affected by AIDS\, and went on to collaborate for decades on many activist media projects\, including this one.\nAlexandra Juhasz\, Juanita’s family members\, and others will be present to discuss this haunting\, sometimes sad\, and often hopeful personal documentary about how we collaborate with fellow activists in life and also in death.\nThe film screening will be held alongside an exhibit of Henry’s work as a photographer and writer\, as well as the work of his wife\, Juanita\, who was a filmmaker and an AIDS activist.\nAlexandra Juhasz is a Distinguished Professor of Film at Brooklyn College\, CUNY and a lifelong AIDS activist. Juanita Mohammed Szczepanski (1957-2022) was a prolific activist videomaker whose work focused on AIDS\, disability\, racism\, and gender.”
