Speaking in Pairs Dialogue Friday March 20th, 2026

Positive Exposure, Reconstructing a Face
Naomi Levinshtein
In this presentation, Naomi Levinshtein reflects on how portraiture can reshape the experience of facial difference, drawing from both her own photographic practice and the work of Rick Guidotti. Speaking from both sides of the camera—as someone who has undergone palate repair and as a photographer documenting her peers—Levinshtein considers how Guidotti’s founding of Positive Exposure challenges the clinical, often dehumanizing conventions of medical photography.
