After losing their son to sickle cell disease, Merlene and Molino become fierce advocates and medical providers for those suffering with the chronic, sometimes fatal illness. In this short film, sickle cell survivors gather amongst themselves to share stories of grief, empowerment, and resiliency.
Sickle cell disease, a hereditary red blood cell disorder affecting more than 100,000 people in the U.S., predominantly African and Hispanic Americans. Sickle cell disease is chronically underfunded and receives little awareness, largely due to systemic racial disparities.
