Celebrating Stories Through Images
By: Ovya

Hi there, and welcome to my Positive Exposure blog! I’m so excited to be joining this amazing community and sharing a little about myself and what brought me here.
I’ve always loved photography- how a single image can hold a whole story, capture a fleeting feeling, romanticize the everyday, or leave just enough mystery to make you pause and wonder. I first discovered Positive Exposure through one of their gallery exhibitions at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, and I was completely drawn in. Seeing everyone’s portraits on display was incredibly powerful. Each photo felt like the beginning of a story, and I found myself wanting to know more about the people behind the images.
Around the same time, I had the chance to shadow in the craniofacial clinic at Dartmouth. I met so many incredible patients with beautifully diverse facial anatomy. Each patient had their own story, a spark, and a presence that stayed with me. Even though we were seeing these patients to “fix” or “treat” their differences, I didn’t want to lose sight of how important it was to see, honor, and celebrate those differences as well.
With a background in public health and an interest in global and craniofacial surgery, I’ve always been drawn to the stories that don’t always get told. That’s what I love most about Positive Exposure- it puts the spotlight on people, their creativity, and their lived experiences, rather than their diagnoses.
I’m really looking forward to being part of a space where art, advocacy, and identity intersect. I can’t wait to learn from this community, share what I can, and keep growing in the process. Thanks so much for being here, and I’ll see you in the next post!
