Arielle

Arielle with Albinism

Hello! My name is Arielle and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I will be 26 years old and I will start law school at Georgia State University (GSU) College of Law.  I love school, but I am certain that this will be the last degree that I will be earning now.  At this point, I have a BA and a MA in French and I am really excited to start my new path in law. I’m not sure what I want to practice for now, but my goal is to start law school with an open mind.

I love activities such as swimming, running, whitewater rafting, hiking, and zip-lining.  I would say running is one of my favorite things to do during my free time.  I really love road races.  I ran a half marathon in December and I hope to run another one in the future.  I like group gym classes like spinning and Pilates and I hope I can fit it in while in school. I also like binge-watching on Netflix and hanging out with my friends and family.  I hope one day, that I will be able to be a certified scuba diver when I find the time.  I also like cooking, but we will see if I really like it during the next school year.  I love animals and I have spent some time volunteering at PAWS Atlanta.  I have four dogs: Beauregard (Pug), Pepe (Pug), Lucy (Chihuahua) and Ethel (Chihuahua).  Since I am no longer reading/writing/speaking French as much as I used to, some of my free time will also go to maintaining my language skills.  I have already bought a lot of books through my Amazon kindle and I will check out Alliance Français d’Atlanta in the future!

There is one thing that makes me stand out compared to a majority of my peers that attend GSU; I have oculocutaneous albinism (OCA), which is the medical name for albinism, Albinism which is the politically correct term compared to the colloquial term albino, is a rare genetic condition that causes lack of pigment in the hair, skin, and eyes.  No one in my family, including my fraternal twin sister, has OCA.  Also, I have mentioned above that I have a fraternal twin sister.  Although she is very pale, she does not have albinism.  Just for clarification.  Why do I have albinism and my sister does not?
