What First Responders Need to Know About Individuals Living with I/DD

Virtual Screening and Q&A

Wednesday, February 19 at 7 pm EST

According to the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety, 50-80% of Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) interactions involve an individual with a disability.

Emergency Medical Responders who are unequipped to respond sensitively to individuals with I/DD risk causing preventable harm to these individuals when they are at their most vulnerable.

There is a critical need to train EMR teams on how to identify, communicate with, and serve individuals with I/DD. Currently, no national standards for mandatory training exist.

Image Description: On a black background are a photo an ambulance and three portraits: of a young man with dark skin, smiling at the camera; a young man with light skin, wearing headphones; and a woman with light skin, also smiling. The poster contains the following text, in white: “Positive Exposure Film Screening. What First Responders Need To Know About Individuals Living with I/DD. Virtual Screening and Q&A. Wednesday, February 19 at 7pm EST.” At the end of the poster is the WITH Foundation logo.
