What First Responders Need to Know About Individuals Living with I/DD
Virtual Screening and Q&A
Wednesday, February 19 at 7 pm EST
According to the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety, 50-80% of Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) interactions involve an individual with a disability.
Emergency Medical Responders who are unequipped to respond sensitively to individuals with I/DD risk causing preventable harm to these individuals when they are at their most vulnerable.
There is a critical need to train EMR teams on how to identify, communicate with, and serve individuals with I/DD. Currently, no national standards for mandatory training exist.
