Here is an example of some of the extra steps I have to take in order to do the same things as my sighted peers. Do I enjoy fighting with publishers about providing published materials in accessible formats? No not really… but nothing will be done unless I say something, right? It is more important to try to solve the problem than complain. The former is more counterproductive than the latter. After sending numerous emails explaining my accommodations to Kaplan about alternative text, I finally received one of my books in an electronic format that I can read and use like anyone else and I’m currently waiting on my second one. In the meantime, I’m not waiting for them to give me the materials in order to do my work. No one said living with a disability is easy, but when is anything in life easy? ♿️
