Apartment Hunting 2018
By: Arielle
So many of you know that I can drive (kind of), but when I moved to Athens, I decided to postpone my driving lessons because I can’t commute back to Atlanta to do driving lessons all weekends. I might just give up driving all together …. we’ll see. However, I am starting to realize one of the disadvantages to living on a large campus is that it’s large. I am completely dependent on the campus bus. I can use paratransit, but I feel that my schedule is way too unpredictable to set up a continuous pick up time for the semester. I live in an on campus apartment that is at the opposite end of where I have classes every day. The commute can be about an hour total a day and on the weekends I feel a bit trapped because there is only one bus route running. It can take about a good hour or two to circle around the whole campus on the weekends. I started considering off campus apartments for next year because I think the location is really important for me. I am not saying that the apartment I live in now is bad, it’s just the location that is a problem. Going to grocery stores will be a problem anywhere I go in Athens, because they are all far from campus (usually an exit off the highway or just not walkable). I learned that there is an apartment above the CVS in downtown and I went to check it out. It’s relatively new, and it’s about 4 minute walk to Gilbert Hall (if I time the traffic lights correctly). I feel that I am so used to being able to walk everywhere while at Emory and when I lived in France that I’m getting spoiled! I submitted an application this evening for fall 2018…. I’m not even finished with fall 2017! Fingers crossed!
