Behind the Scenes
By: Bailey
Growing up I loved being on stage and I absolutely loved being in musicals. My senior year of high school I was in both Cinderella and Godspell and enjoyed every minute of it. I probably would have pursued musical theatre in college if I had more confidence in my abilities but then I would have missed out on enjoying being behind the scenes. When I went to college, I chickened out on auditioning for the acting class in order to be in the musicals. However, the director knew I was a gifted pianist (I was in college for piano) and she asked me to be a rehearsal pianist for the spring musical…apparently, something they had never had a freshman do before. It was strange at first because I still had such a yearning to be on the stage instead. But I began to enjoy seeing the whole process from a new view. It was so much fun to see how far the cast came from day one to the week of the show. I was asked to be in the orchestra pit for the performances, too! This started a beautiful journey of playing for college shows…Cinderella, Into the Woods, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. After graduation, I returned to my hometown and was asked to play in the pit for a local high school and have had the opportunity to play for…Aida, Shrek, Seussical, and The Addams Family. Just this past month, I played for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was a blast!
