A Tour of My Office
By: Rebecca, MSW
I wanted to write this post last week but my pain was out of control and I never had the energy to sit down and write. L I feel like pain is one of my biggest issues now that I’m older. It’s awful because one day I might feel fine and the next day I can’t do anything. It’s interesting too because I have been taking 2 medicines to manage my pain since January. I ran out of one of the meds recently and submitted an authorization request for the doctor to approve but it took much longer than I thought. The request was sent on 4/11 and it wasn’t approved until this Tuesday, so 4/26. The pharmacy had to re-order the medicine because they were out so I didn’t get it until yesterday. It’s funny because it wasn’t until I didn’t have the medicine that I realized it actually has been helping. Hopefully I continue to feel better now that I have the right meds on board. We’ll see…
Anyways, I wanted to share some pictures of my office space! I work there twice a week. The rest of the time I’m at home. My department has been so nice with my accommodations. I was able to try different keyboards and mice. I’m really liking them- the keyboard is easy for me to use and the mouse is a touchpad! In this picture you can see some of my decorations including my Harry Potter poster. J I love that quote: ““It is our choices, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Unfortunately, it keeps falling down so I need to figure out a way to make it stick better. It’s fallen down so many times I feel badly asking someone to fix it for me now haha. Ryan was sweet and tried to make it stick with tape from the copy area instead of what I had but it’s still not sticking. L I’ve also got this year’s Social Work Awareness month logo up there. I really liked this year’s theme “Forging Solutions Out of Challenges”. The little gray rectangle near the phone is my Streamer. I can use that instead of a headset. The phone audio gets streamed directly to my hearing aids. I can then talk normally and the streamer picks up my voice through the microphone. It makes it so much easier to do my job- I can be on the phone and enter data into the computer at the same time. On my desk I have my coffee cup (Michigan themed of course) and a paper stand. It holds the paper in an upright position so it’s easier to read. I decorated it with washi tape and scrapbook paper to make it match my other accessories.
Here’s a picture of my bookshelf that was purchased for me. I love it because I was running low on desk space. It was a little messy when I took this picture but you get the idea. I framed my official license and I think it turned out pretty cute. I feel so official with it being there haha. The department also lowered the coat hook so I can reach it easier.
The coolest thing they have done though is put a grab bar on the outside of my door. My co-worker and I both have disabilities so it’s hard for us to shut the door behind us when we go to meetings. This isn’t a huge deal but sometimes the door needs to be shut if we’re making phone calls. I saw this on Pinterest and my department was more than happy to try it out. It makes it much easier to shut the door because I don’t have to reach really far to grab the handle. I’ll try and take a video with my phone to show you how it works. :)
There is also a mini fridge and a microwave so that my co-worker and I don’t have to go all the way down to the kitchen. The microwave in there is way too high anyway so it works out well. That’s pretty much my space. Hope you enjoyed the tour!
