Driving Lessons
By: Arielle
I start driving lessons again!!!!
But wait Arielle, is your vision good enough to drive?
Yes, technically in several states as long as the cut off is at 20/200.
How do you drive?
I have to use a device called bioptics. Bi optics I.e. 2 lenses. So there is basically a telescope on top of my glasses which is suppose to help me spot things (I see 20/40 through the telescope). We call this bioptic driving, which in itself is a specific class of driver. That doesn’t mean the state is so easy on me. For some strange reason a permit for a bioptic driver doesn’t exist in Georgia (I am not sure why the law is set like that). So I’m trying to obtain a license, which is difficult since I can only legally drive with a driving instructor. I also use my high school parking lot for practice (don’t tell anyone). I would call this a good marketing strategy since I’ll have 30 hours worth of lessons by the end of this month. The legal requirement is six hours where two of those hours are night time driving. Frankly, it’s been extremely difficult to fit in 2 hours worth of lessons into my school schedule since it’s usually random. I’m hoping I’ll have some license by the end of this summer, either unrestricted or restricted to daytime only or something like that. And yes they can restrict your license, but that doesn’t mean it’s permanent. While practice you can test again to lift the restrictions. Fingers crossed. I need to learn how to drive in a straight line first, for some reason that is very difficult for me.
