Getting Sammy!
By: Mia
Last Wednesday I got my new animal for the 2019 Fort Bend County Fair, Sammy. Sammy is a steer, or a boy cow that I will show in the livestock show at the fair. Sammy is about 7 months old and he’s now at a new barn without all his siblings, so he is a little nervous and shy right now. Sammy was already pretty friendly for a new steer when I got him, so I have been able to be near him; he just doesn’t like to be touched all the time because Sammy has only known me for 3 days now. To me, Sammy is like the best (early) Christmas present EVER!!! Ever since I became interested in raising animals, I have wanted to raise a steer. The only reason I didn’t do it was because I didn’t have any experience raising or showing animals. That is why I started off by raising a pig. In the past year and a half, I raised 2 pigs and both pigs gave me some amazing experiences like making new friends and even winning 2nd place at the fair! After getting some experience raising pigs, I decided I wanted to raise a steer for the fair. It did take some time to convince my parents that I should raise a steer, but one day I finally convinced them after showing how responsible I could be while raising pigs and keeping up with my school work. I knew raising a steer will be a challenge, but I love to challenge myself to work hard and I believe if I put my mind to it, I can do it!!! This is kinda random, but another reason I love having animals is because I love taking pictures of them .
Wow! Sammy is beautiful and really cool!
