Glass Time

I am a glass hobbyist who has been exploring this unique material for about 15 years. It can be worked in a molten state, blowing and lampworking, or worked with it in a cold state, stained glass, fusing. I have done both lampworking and cold glass work. Historically, glass has been used for about 4,000 years. I enjoy practicing this ancient craft.

Here is a photo of some glass that I have made today. I use glass powder called frit to fill up the mold then put it into a kiln to melt and cool slowly. This part takes a long time. When I open the kiln, I get to see how the glass turns out! That is the exciting part because with glass the colors can change or react with each other. This when the glass rings are out of the kiln and done cooling. The colors shown here are French Vanilla Opal and Turquoise Blue Opal.

I have mostly made picture frames, bowls, beads, pendants, and most recently, rings for bookmarks and jewelry design. I enjoy giving my glass creations to family and friends as gifts and selling them at a local artisan gallery.
