Gabriella: I’m so bored on New Years Eve! I wish there was something fun for me to do.
Mrs. Montez: There is a party going on in the hotel lobby. You should check it out!
Gabriella: That sounds amazing! (walks up to party)
Mr. Montez: Yes, it should be a blast! Go out and meet some new people! Who knows who you might find!
Mrs. Montez: You know what they say about New Years Eve!
Mr. Montez: In with the new!
Party Announcer: Welcome to the New Years Eve Party! Whoever the spotlight hits will sing a special New Years song!
(spotlight hits Troy and Gabriella, music begins)

Troy: It was so nice to meet you Gabriella! Where do you go to school?
Gabriella: I just transferred this semester actually, I now go to East High! How about you?
Troy: No way! I go there too! You should watch me play basketball sometime.

Troy: Wait…………Can I have your………..(she is lost in the crowd) number???
(Troy leaves, school bell rings. Gabriella is now at school. Taylor, Joe, Martha, Bruce, Teddy, Kelsie approach Gabriella)
Taylor: Hey, girl! I’m Taylor………you look new!
Gabriella: I am!
Taylor: Cool, let me introduce to my friends!
Joe: Hey, I’m Joe!
Lena: Hiya! My name is Lena.
Martha: What’s up! I’m Martha!
Bruce: Sup girl! I’m Bruce!
Teddy: Hey, I’m Teddy!
Kelsie: And I’m Kelsie! What’s your name?
Gabriella: I’m Gabriella!
Taylor: Wanna come watch the basketball game with us? We’re just heading to the gym now, our team is really good!
Gabriella: Sure!
Martha: Awesome, it should be so much fun!
Lena: Yeah, our basketball team rocks.
(At the gym)
Coach Bolton: Alright boys! I want to see you guys win today! If you try your best, we will win.
Jason: I’m so excited for this game!
Zeke: Me too. I can’t wait to whip their butts on the court!
Coach Bolton: Hey now, no trash talking the other team. We just have to have fun.
Chad: Yeah, guys! What team?!

Gabriella: What? No fair!

Kelsie: I know, that’s just plain silly.
Joe: I don’t get it!
Mrs. Darbus: That’s it, you’re all in detention after school today! (everyone groans and acts upset)
Troy: It’s okay, they’re auditioning the spring musical today, so at least we’ll have something to entertain us!
(bell ring sound effect, everyone sits as auditions take place)
Sharpay: Move, losers! It’s MY time to shine! Some of us are here because we have talent, not because we got a detention!

Sharpay: This makes no sense! Troy is a jock and Gabriella is a geek! If they are the stars in the spring musical, everyone will think that it’s okay to step outside their comfort zone!
