Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season, whatever way you celebrate we wish you joy.  As usual our days were busy but we try very hard to enjoy this time of year to the fullest.

Here are some of our many highlights from December.

Owen got to be a sheep in the children’s program at church.  The best part is he got to share the fun with his cousins Gabe and Hannah!   The church provides the adorable little sheep hats but because Owen has sensory issues and doesn’t like to wear things on his head I never know if he will wear his hat so I sewed up a little sheep costume for him.  I shouldn’t have worried, Owen was the best little sheep ever!

Another fun tradition is visiting Johnstown Central Park for their Christmas Village display.  The park is filled with tiny structures decorated by local businesses for the holidays.  Owen loves running from one small house to the next.  And it makes me smile seeing him stand on the porch of each one waving at us like a tiny little adult.  It was an extra fun day because we went to the local art gallery where they had ornament decorating for the little ones. It was easily one of my most favorite days of the whole year.

Of course, what would the holidays be without baking some cookies?  Owen enjoys coming in after most of the work is done for the fun part of putting the cookies on the tray to go in the oven, mixing in the chocolate chips, and of course eating the dough!

Last year we started the tradition of decorating a gingerbread house together. I was so excited to do that again this year.  Owen had a very clear vision for where he thought things should go.  When he got bored and left, Daddy took over and was equally serious about how he thought the house should look.

Christmas morning this year was our best one yet!  Owen is usually stressed by opening gifts and we often spend a week or more to open all his gifts. This year he loved opening his gifts and you guys, it was awesome.  I was so excited to see him enjoying himself.  As soon as he opened one gift he was looking for the next one!  We had so much fun on Christmas morning!

We hope your celebrations were as fun as ours! I can’t wait to tell you about another of our new holiday traditions, going to see the Nutcracker, next time!
