I Can Walk!

I Can Walk!

I was nearly two years old when I was diagnosed with a chromosome 18q deletion. Doctors told my mom and dad I might never walk, but four months later I took my first steps and I have been walking ever since. I can also run, jump, gallop, and lately I have even been dancing at fancy galas that I have been invited to attend.

You might see me in a wheelchair. I use it when I’m navigating through unfamiliar environments or if I am traveling long distances. Sometimes people are afraid of me and my wheelchair, but it serves as security for me. You see, I tend to run off without understanding that I could get lost or hurt.  My chair keeps me safe and helps me feel safe, especially since I am deaf and have a severe intellectual and developmental disability.
