May is Borderline Personality Disorder Awareness month!

May is Borderline Personality Disorder Awareness Month! I was diagnosed with BPD around 2019, and I was so glad to get the diagnosis because I’d suspected it for quite a while. Two of the main challenges I have because of BPD are HUGE emotions and fear of abandonment. I use so much self control to try not to let these issues make me treat people in ways that would hurt them. Sometimes I mess up, but I try to apologize and not mess up next time. The best therapy for BPD is Dialectic Behavioral Therapy. This therapy focuses on mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance. I did DBT twice, and it changed my life for the better both times! I would even recommend it to people without BPD. This is me relating my story of Borderline Personality Disorder to Dr. Melissa Mork a couple of years ago on her podcast. Feel free to post questions you have below! And spread the word that BPD doesn’t necessarily create monsters like at the TV shows say– it creates the need for understanding people in our lives because we have some specific challenges!
