A TIME FOR BEING SEEN AND HEARD

By: Amy

When President-elect Joe Biden gave his acceptance speech on November 7, 2020, he said these words:

“We must make the promise of the country real for everybody, no matter their race, their ethnicity, their faith, their identity, or their disability.”

When I heard that, I felt I was finally a part of something big. People with disabilities have dreams, too, but too often they get overlooked as unimportant. After feeling small and unseen as part of American life, I felt hope that I could finally be seen. This is most important message to the disability community right now: Our voices need to be heard and not silenced.
