Focusing on What We CAN Do!
By: Amy
I have never been locked in at home before now. But I WAS stuck in hospital rehab for a long time after I had my big surgery to place a titanium rod in my femur. For a while, I felt really down, like I’d never have fun again. One thing I learned during that time was it really helped my mental health to have a goal. At first, my goal was just to get out of bed, then to get to the end of the hall. Seeing little accomplishments helped me focus on what I COULD do instead of what I couldn’t. I kept setting bigger goals all the way to my 1st 5k. Having a goal helped me accomplish what I thought I could never do. So while we are all stuck inside, set small goals. Start with what you can do and and see how much better you feel!
(These pictures are of me learning to walk again, and me running my first 5K. My femur was still broken because my bones are weird and don’t heal well. But, my titanium rod was strong!)
