How to Make a Superhero

What does it take to make a superhero? It takes hero support – for me, that’s friendship and my family! I rely on them every day. Gadgets and technology – I have a titanium leg. Crazy experiments in a secret lair – I visit the National Institutes of Health (NIH) (which is sort of like a secret lair because you have to go through crazy security to get in) and I’m part of all kinds of research and experiments there. Mad scientists – I have whole team of incredible doctors and nurses to help me. Special qualities that make them very unique. For me, my genes are 1 in a million, and that’s special AND unique. A weakness – my Kryptonite is the sun, because my body can’t process UV rays. Of course, a superhero needs superpowers – mine is my voice. I am letting my voice be heard about living with a rare disease, and treating everybody equally. And, finally, a superhero needs a secret identity. My secret identity is TitaniumAmy! When I’m TitaniumAmy, I feel powerful! Even though it’s not always easy to be a superhero, and all superheroes have to fight epic battles, what matters most is to keep fighting for what’s right. And so I’ll keep fighting! I hope you will also strive to make a difference – you will be a superhero too! It’s going to be a marvelous adventure! – TitaniumAmy
